High on
pain medication for his stab wound, Aden reluctantly turns command of the Phoenix House over to Philip.
Although his style of leadership is different, things continue to operate smoothly until Amorette confesses to Valero that
she's been having difficulty controlling her powers. He gives her a magical bracelet, hoping it'll help her, but the
bracelet fails and Amorette's powers go finally haywire. At the exact same moment, Casey discovers a dozen spiders in
her pocket, Adriana's face is mysteriously multilated, and an image of War, the greatest fiend from the Guardians' past, appears
to Ariadne. Amorette faints and it all disappears.
The next
night Valero's artistic side attempts a little drawing contest with Sito, but before they can compare their art Sito's worst
nightmare happens, and he turns into Black Keaton, an entity he became back in his Guardian days when War convinced him to
kill Philip in a vain attempt to win Ariadne's heart. Valero's war-like personality jumps into to defend himself and
the two have a skirmish, both intent on killing one another. Valero ends up breaking Sito's arm, but the "nightmare-effect"
ends and he stops himself from making a fatal mistake.
War shows
up to taunt Ariadne again, reminding her of their past encounters when he tortured her, but she doesn't tell anyone.
Meanwhile, more odd occurances take place: Ana's juice turns into blood, a hologram of Ewan, the officer that ruined
Tranns' life haunts her, and an energy ghost reminds Philip of the fact that Ariadne is mortal and will soon leave him
all alone. All of this is centered around Amorette's consciousness. When she sleeps, the nightmares stop.
The nightmare becomes just a little too real again when War tries to kill Philip and Ariadne. The Phoenix Fighters meet
to discuss ways of stopping it, but nothing seems to work.
Amorette
soon feels the terror of her own power when War starts speaking to her, not to scare her but rather as a father. Casey
gives Valero free reign of her laboratory and he begins to assemble some magical artifacts using some mysterious jewels.
While that's happening, Mia's nightmare comes to reality when she's attacked by a phantom Lucien, stark raving mad from jealousy
over her relationship with Aden. The real Lucien takes some heat, but quickly clears his name without revealing his
true alibi. He's been sleeping with Tranns.
The next
day, Amorette has another flare up, sparking a fight with Mia. Valero enters the scene and distracts Amorette long enough
for Mia to cast a sleeping spell on her. Using his unusual artifacts, Valero drains a vast amount of excess energy from
Amorette and the room itself in a strong breeze. Amorette awakens with little memory of what happened and is instructed
to keep her bracelet on at all times. She is very grateful to Valero. Ariadne, however, senses that the energies
of the House are still off. She cannot determine the cause of the strange feelings, but she admits to Philip that several
possible futures have been caused by the events of the nightmares.
