Kit leads Philip to a town called Sybok where there's a refugee camp similar to the Phoenix House called The Tin Roof.
There, he finds Ariadne who's been under the guise of Shiana, protecting the refugees since her departure from the Phoenix
House. Back at home, Sito and Adriana's private spat becomes public business.
Valero and his team set off in search of Krysta and Amorette. Along the way, they meet up with Telian who seems
to know where the Ebene stronghold the girls are being held in is located. Rufio and Pfalz
eye daggers at each other, so Valero decides to put Pfalz on lookout duty as the rest of the team infiltrate the Ebene fortress.
Back in Sybok, Ariadne and Philip, both unable to express their true feelings for each other,
confide in Kit. Casey, back in the Phoenix House, begins a series of experiments to restore Sic's vision. None
of them seem to work, as the mysterious creature who first restored Sic's vision has returned, accusing her of "cheating."
No one understand what this means.
Valero's team continues the operation, running smoother than expected. After disabling
a single guard, they reach the cells. Valero uses his buckler to disable the energy field holding Krysta and Amorette.
Though free, Amorette's behavior gets out of control. She sings softly to herself and slaps Valero. Dragging Amorette
along, the team escapes to the House, although Rufio pauses to kill an Ebene in cold blood when no one is looking. Amorette
and Valero bicker the entire way, leaving the others to merely guess at what is afflicting Amorette.
Tranns and Sito discuss the nature of love in relation to physical contact. Casey begins
to work on restoring Amorette. Meanwhile, in Sybok, Ariadne and Philip finally reconcile after their fight, each admitting
to the other their love. They are told by Kit's mother, a powerful witch, that there is trouble back at the House, so
they return, with Kit.
Krysta explains that she has been poisoned and has lost her magic powers. Meanwhile, Amorette's
problems show signs of being purely psychological, due to her treatment as an Ebene prisoner. Kind words from Valero
begin the healing process. Aden and Kit create an alliance between the Phoenix House and the Tin Roof, sealing the deal
by exchanging Sito and Adriana's temporary service for a few of Kit's spells. Lionel is sent to live in the Tim Roof
on a more permanent basis.
